Baseball Recap: Ferndale Victorious

Ferndale lost to Oak Harbor back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. Ferndale walked away with an 8-3 win over Oak Harbor. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Eagles.

Fenton Vasak made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braylon O'Breen, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Joseph Bense, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Ferndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Ferndale's record now sits at 4-2. As for Oak Harbor, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ferndale will head out to square off against Lynden Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oak Harbor, they will take on Marysville Getchell at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Marysville Getchell has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.67 runs per game on average), something Oak Harbor will no doubt try to take advantage of.
