Softball Recap: Castilleja Takes a Loss

Castilleja extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They came up short against the South San Francisco Warriors, falling 21-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Monday.

Katherine Cheng made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two stolen bases.

As for South San Francisco, they pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On South San Francisco's side, Kadence Yip was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yip was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maggie Bergesen, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Keira Crutchfield, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Castilleja has already played their next matchup, a 14-2 loss against Notre Dame on the 15th. As for South San Francisco, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-10 victory against Mercy on the 14th.
