Basketball Game Preview: North Charleston Cougars vs. Military Magnet Academy Eagles

The North Charleston Cougars and the Military Magnet Academy Eagles will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: North Charleston has struggled recently with 20 defeats in a row, while Military Magnet Academy will arrive with four straight victories.

It was a proper cat-fight when North Charleston faced off against West Ashley on Monday. North Charleston took a blow against West Ashley, falling 60-14. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Wildcats are ranked 83rd).

Meanwhile, Military Magnet Academy's game on Monday was all tied up 27-27 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 57-47 win over Lucy Beckham.

North Charleston better focus on containing Dream Watson and Mariah Brown as the pair were huge in Military Magnet Academy's win. Watson went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Brown posted 14 points. Watson has been hot, having posted four or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Danariyah Williams, who had ten points and six rebounds.

Military Magnet Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

North Charleston's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Military Magnet Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

North Charleston took a serious blow against Military Magnet Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2020, falling 72-33. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point North Charleston was down 34-12.
