Recap: Catholic Memorial Knights vs. Mater Dei Monarchs
After a string of eight wins, the Catholic Memorial Knights's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 87-69 fall against Mater Dei. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Dei to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brannon Martinsen, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Martinsen hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Brandon Benjamin was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Catholic Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Mater Dei, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 19-1.
Catholic Memorial will head out on the road to face off against St. John's Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. John's Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Catholic Memorial is ranked first). As for Mater Dei, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Margarita at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Margarita is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
