Basketball Recap: Shyla Simms Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Page

There's no place like home for Grimsley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against the Page Pirates by a score of 46-34 on Monday. The Whirlies haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Grimsley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shyla Simms led the charge by to rack up 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Simms has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaya Blount, who on her way to 14 points.

Grimsley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Page lost, don't look at Lola Vanore. Despite the final result, she en route to 16 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ansley Bode, who posted two points and 11 boards.

Grimsley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points over those games. As for Page, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-16.

Grimsley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-37 defeat against Northwest Guilford on the 18th. As for Page, they have also already played their next match, a 64-21 loss against Mallard Creek on the 25th.
