Basketball Recap: Abigail Epperson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Washburn over Cloudland

Washburn has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 47-37 to the Cloudland Highlanders on Friday. The Pirates lost against the Highlanders in their previous head to head back in February of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 62-18 score last time.

Washburn's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abigail Epperson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Epperson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Williams, who posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Washburn's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Cloudland, they now have a winning record of 15-14.

Washburn does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cloudland, they will challenge Unaka on Monday. Unaka will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Cloudland surely won't give up without a fight.
