Basketball Game Preview: Ashe County Huskies vs. Avery County Vikings + How To Watch

Having just played yesterday, the Ashe County Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Avery County Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Ashe County took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They snuck past Hibriten with a 71-66 victory. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Ashe County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Peters, who posted 30 points. Those 30 points gave Peters a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Sheets, who put up 19 points.

Meanwhile, Avery County beat West Wilkes 59-50 on Friday. The matchup marked the Vikings' most dominant win of the season so far.

Avery County's win came from a few key players Ashe County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Hank Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. The game was his fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Blaine Kirkpatrick, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 15 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Avery County's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Ashe County, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Ashe County couldn't quite finish off Avery County when the teams last played back in December of 2024 and fell 54-52. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
