Baseball Game Preview: Saranac Spartans vs. Saranac Lake Red Storm

Saranac is 8-2 against Saranac Lake since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Saranac has four straight victories, Saranac Lake has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Saranac is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over AuSable Valley. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Austin Lareau made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Saranac got a massive performance out of Seth Petrashune, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI Petrashune has posted since back in May of 2024. Landon Giroux was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Saranac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Saranac Lake lost 10-2 to Beekmantown last Monday.

Saranac's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Saranac Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Everything went Saranac's way against Saranac Lake when the teams last played last Saturday, as Saranac made off with a 9-3 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
