Recap: West Anchorage Eagles vs. South Anchorage Wolverines
The West Anchorage Eagles had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.7 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They walked away with a 34-21 victory over South Anchorage. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but West Anchorage was the better team in the second half.
West Anchorage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Hampton, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Azariah Atonio, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt.
West Anchorage's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 10-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Juneau-Douglas/Thunder Mountain and 1-8 Juneau-Douglas/Thunder Mountain (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.2% over those games). As for South Anchorage, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
