Volleyball Recap: Jim Thorpe Comes Up Short

Jim Thorpe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Notre Dame-Green Pond Crusaders, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in August.

Jim Thorpe may have fallen short, but they were sure consistent: they scored 19 points in every single set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-19, 25-19.

Jaylah Yeakel paced Jim Thorpe's offense, picking up eight kills. Yeakel got some help from Maura Malaska and her 18 assists. Malaska was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Notre Dame-Green Pond to victory, but perhaps none more so than Autumn Nixon, who had seven assists and six aces. Those six aces gave Nixon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brianna Banaag, who had 11 digs and one assist.

Jim Thorpe's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Notre Dame-Green Pond, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Jim Thorpe didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Lehighton on the 25th. As for Notre Dame-Green Pond, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Bethlehem Catholic on the 26th.
