Soccer Game Preview: Meridian vs. Christiansburg

The Meridian Mustangs will take on the Christiansburg Blue Demons at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Meridian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their defense stepped up to hand Tabb a 3-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but Meridian sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Amin Shams and Fletcher Saaty scored all three of Meridian's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 36 goals.

Meanwhile, Christiansburg entered their tilt with Turner Ashby on Tuesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They were the clear victors by a 4-0 margin over the Knights. Given Christiansburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked third, while Turner Ashby are ranked 49th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meridian pushed their record up to 15-2-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 65 goals over those nine games. As for Christiansburg, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.
