Football Game Preview: Bolsa Grande Matadors vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs

Two dominant backs in Anthony Bell and Gavin Garza are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Bolsa Grande Matadors will venture away from home to square off against the Costa Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Bolsa Grande is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Loara on Thursday. The Matadors' defense stepped up to hand the Saxons a 24-0 shutout. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Saxons recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Daymien Sanchez produced another solid performance rushing for 122 yards and one touchdown. Those 122 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Bolsa Grande's run defense was locked in: Loara could only muster 2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Braden Maae for the heroic effort on defense: he. Bolsa Grande's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.4.

Bolsa Grande didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nathan Bautista and Dylan Nguyen. Bautista has become a key player for Bolsa Grande: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least one interception, but 1-2 otherwise. Maae was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 14 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Costa Mesa got the win against Anaheim on Friday by a conclusive 37-14. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six games by 23 points or more so far this season.

Bolsa Grande better keep an eye on Andrew Waiss. He was instrumental in Costa Mesa's win, throwing for 134 yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 49 yards.

Bolsa Grande now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Costa Mesa, their record is now 6-1.
