Softball Recap: Lakeland Has No Trouble Against Moscow

Lakeland came out on top against Moscow on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Bears. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 16-5 victory on Wednesday.

Abby Helmholz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Jaiden Corbey was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiersten Drake, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Lakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Lakeland and bumps their season record up to 8-14. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Moscow, they dropped their record down to 6-18 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Lakeland will square off against Lewiston at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bengals have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. Moscow does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
