Recap: Mountain Empire Redhawks vs. Monarch Royals
After flying high against the School for Entrepreneurship & Technology Lions on Tuesday, the Mountain Empire Redhawks came back down to earth. Mountain Empire fell 55-47 to Monarch on Thursday. Mountain Empire was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Monarch apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.
Mountain Empire lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Andrew Sepulveda, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Corey Vann, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Mountain Empire's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Monarch, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Mountain Empire will head out on the road to face off against King-Chavez Community at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monarch, they will be playing at home against High Tech Mesa at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. High Tech Mesa comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
