Baseball Recap: Westmont Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Westmont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 14-10 victory over the Milford Bearcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sentinels.

Briggs Templeton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double. Westmont is undefeated when Templeton posts two or more runs, but 7-8-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Nikolai Baldwin was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Chinea, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Westmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Westmont's win bumped their record up to 12-8-1. As for Milford, they moved to 8-9 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westmont will venture away from home to face off against Newark at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Sentinels will need to watch out since the Norsemen have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Milford, they will head out to square off against Covington at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
