Baseball Recap: Cathedral City's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

After losing to Desert Hot Springs the last time they met, Cathedral City decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lions came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 11-7 on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Isaac Reyes made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Cathedral City is 2-1 when Reyes posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Damien Castro was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Ruben Sanchez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Cathedral City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Cathedral City's record is now 5-13. As for Desert Hot Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cathedral City beat the Golden Eagles by a score of 12-7 on Thursday.
