Basketball Recap: Garinger Wildcats vs. Providence Panthers

Garinger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 70-32 defeat at the hands of the Providence Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-46 back in January.

Despite the loss, Garinger saw an underclassman step up: freshman Aaron Lawler went 9-for-17 to rack up 23 points. That was a full 71.9% of Garinger's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tamar Spence, who put up five points.

Providence's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Gaither, who went 5-for-11 en route to 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That's the most boards Gaither has posted since back in February of 2024. Evan Wisotsky was another key player, going 5-for-7 on his way to 14 points.

Garinger's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Providence, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-16.

Garinger and Providence could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Garinger will take on Rocky River at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 254 places (465 vs. 211). Meanwhile, Providence (ranked 272nd) will meet East Mecklenburg (ranked 109th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
