LEXINGTON, Ky. The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Under Armour All-American High School Volleyball Team Wednesday.

The 48 players selected represent 23 states and 44 high schools. Many have already committed to play collegiate volleyball at some of the top programs in the country.

Each of the 24 players on the first team will be invited to play in the inaugural Under Armour All-America High School Volleyball Match and Skills Competition. The event will be held at Qwest Center Omaha, Neb., Dec. 21 in conjunction with the 2008 AVCA Annual Convention.

Requirements for nomination were that the student-athlete be in her senior year of high school, nominated by her high school coach, that her coach be a member of the AVCA and that her season statistics be entered into MaxPreps.

“I’m extremely pleased with the participation in this year’s awards program,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “The high school coaches on our selection committee had a very difficult task, as they had so many fine players nominated.”

“The young female athletes on the Under Armour All-American team are defining the future of volleyball,” said Tori Hanna, Under Armour, Director of Women's, Sports Marketing. “We look forward to continuing to support the growth of the next generation of elite volleyball players by making them better through our grassroots performance training events and our cutting-edge performance apparel and footwear.”
