Baseball Recap: Shandon Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Valley Christian Academy, Shandon was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Coast Union Broncos. The Outlaws' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Cristobal Cruz Rodriguez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eric Ruelas, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Shandon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Shandon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Coast Union, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
