Softball Recap: Maryvale Finds Home Field Redemption Against Camelback

There's no place like home for Maryvale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They blew past the Camelback Spartans 11-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Isabel Hernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaline Ortega was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Lilliana Mudge was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Maryvale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Maryvale's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Camelback, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Maryvale will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
