Football Game Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Menendez Falcons

The Matanzas Pirates will head out to face off against the Menendez Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Menendez took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Matanzas, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Matanzas made easy work of Belleview and carried off a 26-6 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Wiley Conner, who rushed for 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Matanzas is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Menendez was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 23-17 to Tocoi Creek. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The victory made it two in a row for Matanzas and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 19 points in those games. As for Menendez, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Matanzas couldn't quite get it done against Menendez when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 21-10. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
