Basketball Recap: Hampton Roads Academy Comes Up Short

Hampton Roads Academy played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 66-24 loss at the hands of the Steward Spartans. The loss continues a trend for the Navigators in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost nine in a row.

Leading Steward to victory were Donovan Richardson and Xavier Nelson. Richardson went 7 for 11 on his way to 17 points, while Nelson dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Nelson a new career-high in assists (seven). Enrique Ortega was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Hampton Roads Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Steward, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Hampton Roads Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-39 victory against Summit Christian Academy on the 24th. Steward has also already played their next contest, a 55-48 win against Hopewell on the 25th.
