Softball Recap: Oak Mountain Comes Up Short

Oak Mountain was the 17-2 winner over Chilton County when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Oak Mountain Eagles fell just short of the Chilton County Tigers by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday.

Oak Mountain got a good showing from Maddie Prevallet, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Prevallet has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oak Mountain saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marian Cummings, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another was Sheridan Andrews, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Oak Mountain's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Chilton County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Mountain will challenge Thompson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Thompson will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Oak Mountain surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chilton County, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers challenge the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chilton County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
