Basketball Game Preview: Carrizozo Grizzlies vs. Corona/Vaughn Cardinals

The Carrizozo Grizzlies will take on the Corona/Vaughn Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Carrizozo: they have been struggling with nine straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Corona/Vaughn has snatched up 11 consecutive wins on the road also dating back to last season.

Carrizozo and Maxwell faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Saturday. Carrizozo had to suffer through a 65-29 loss at the hands of Maxwell.

Meanwhile, Corona/Vaughn's game on Friday was all tied up 26-26 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Logan by a score of 59-47.

Corona/Vaughn found their leader in sophomore Harper Dunn, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 27 boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Dunn has scored at least a third of Corona/Vaughn's points. Lyndi Lightfoot was another key player, putting up eight points.

Corona/Vaughn has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Carrizozo, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.

Carrizozo was taken down by Corona/Vaughn 70-28 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Dunn, who dropped a triple-double on 46 points, 20 rebounds, and 12 blocks.
