Baseball Recap: Cumby Has No Trouble Against Martins Mill

Cumby not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024. They blew past the Martins Mill Mustangs 16-3. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Mustangs last Tuesday, they had to take a 8-5 loss.

Cumby let Jayden Evans and Montgomery Benton run wild. Evans scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Benton went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Evans has become a key player for Cumby: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hunter McPherson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Cumby was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.

The win snapped Cumby's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-14 record. As for Martins Mill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Cumby will be playing at home against Fruitvale at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Martins Mill, they are taking a road trip to take on Hawkins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
