Preview: Deerfield Warriors vs. Maine South Hawks
The Deerfield Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Maine South Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Deerfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Maine South is ranked 11th).
Last Friday, Deerfield came up short against Evanston and fell 32-25. That means Deerfield has now suffered back-to-back defeats.
Deerfield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Quinn Schimanski, who gained 109 total yards and a touchdown, and Zach Friedman who picked up 39 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Maine South had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took their contest against Glenbrook South 45-36. Maine South had a rough season last year, but they looks ready to turn that poor record around this year.
Maine South's victory bumped their season record to 6-1 while Deerfield's loss dropped theirs to 4-3.
Deerfield took a serious blow against Maine South when the teams last played back in September of 2015, falling 51-7. Can Deerfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
