Basketball Recap: Paxton Pruett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cherryville over Shelby

Cherryville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. The game between them and the Shelby Golden Lions didn't end well, with the Cherryville Ironmen falling 73-54. While losing is never fun, the Ironmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 659th, while the Golden Lions are ranked 233rd).

Cherryville's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paxton Pruett, who posted 14 points. The dominant performance gave Pruett a new career-high in points. Rayshawn Sewell was another key player, putting up eight points.

Shelby found their leader in sophomore Immanuel Collins, who had ten points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Omari Whiteside, who earned nine points.

Cherryville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Shelby, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7.

Cherryville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-63 loss against East Gaston on the 29th. As for Shelby, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-58 win against Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on the 29th.
