Baseball Game Preview: La Porte Slicers vs. Merrillville Pirates

For the second straight game, La Porte will face off against Merrillville. The Slicers are taking a road trip to challenge the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

La Porte took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over Merrillville. The Slicers haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Cody Ryden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

At the plate, Gage Raymond was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of La Porte's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Reed Raymond was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

La Porte hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merrillville struck out 11 times.

Merrillville is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13. As for La Porte, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
