Volleyball Recap: Gretna East Starts Season with Win on the Road

Gretna East had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Westview Wolverines on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won three in a row.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Gretna East who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 20-25, 25-18.

Brooklyn Beethe went supernova, getting 16 digs and two aces. Those 16 digs gave her a new career-high. Halle Nienaber was another key player, getting 11 digs and one assist.

Despite the loss, Westview still got an impressive performance from Kambry Kachaturian, who had ten digs.

Westview's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Gretna East wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Duchesne on the 28th. As for Westview, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 win against North Platte on the 30th.
