Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Rio Linda's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Rio Linda's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They never let the Woodland Wolves get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Kiera Waggoner's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexa Mendoza was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lani Vanderhoof, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Rio Linda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodland only posted a batting average of .200.

Rio Linda has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Woodland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Linda will welcome Natomas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights are facing the Nighthawks at the right time seeing as the Nighthawks are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Woodland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Casa Roble at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
