AAAA Region 2 recap November 5, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Laurens, who took down 204th ranked Baldwin, 37-27.
Te'Aundre Faulks and Shakenneth Williams provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Perry. The longest such play in AAAA Region 2 this season, the connection resulted in 79 yards.
Rutland's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Faulks threw for 97 and 1 touchdown and Williams had 79 yards receiving. On the ground Montez Cheney chipped in 257 yards. Myles Smith helped Rutland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 18 yards.
Cheney provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Hurricanes defeated the Panthers.
Cheney was a force in the backfield as Rutland defeated Perry.
Williams was the best receiver in the league this week as George Collins' team topped Erik Soliday's team. Williams tallied 1 reception for 79 yards. Smith helped Rutland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 18 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Williams. The Rutland star has 23 catches for 564 yards.
Next week's game between Mary Persons and the Raiders will feature a good passing match up as Cal King will test his arm against Nick Turner's defensive ability. So far this year the Bulldogs' King has 1,007 yards and 9 touchdowns to his credit, while Turner has notched 33 interceptions for West Laurens.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mary Persons takes on Stacy Nobles' team. At the moment, Brian Nelson's team is in first, while the Raiders are in fifth.
Veterans added to the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 2 this week by beating the Bulldogs, 10-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
