Softball Recap: Meridian Comes Up Short

The matchup between Meridian and Oakton on Thursday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. Meridian lost 16-6 to Oakton. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Elena Clark-Wilson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Meridian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Claire Dissira, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meridian dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Oakton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Meridian will venture away from home to square off against Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Oakton, they will square off against Annandale at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
