Softball Recap: Crowley Takes a Loss

Softball Recap: Crowley Gent vs. Abbeville Wildcats
If Crowley was feeling good fresh off their 16-1 takedown of Northside last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crowley Gent fell just short of the Abbeville Wildcats by a score of 8-7 on Monday. The Gent were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Zailey Smith put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Zoe Giles was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emma Craedur, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Crowley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Abbeville struck out 11 times.
Crowley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. The win got Abbeville back to even at 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crowley will head out to face off against Gueydan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Crowley is facing Gueydan at the right time seeing as Gueydan is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Abbeville, they will head out on the road to take on Kaplan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
