Football Game Preview: Laurel Highlands Mustangs vs. Trinity Hillers

The Laurel Highlands Mustangs will take on the Trinity Hillers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Laurel Highlands has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight losses, while Trinity will come in with three straight victories.

On Friday, Laurel Highlands had to suffer through a 48-6 loss at the hands of Belle Vernon. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 418th, while the Leopards are ranked 106th).

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Trinity's strategy against Chartiers Valley on Friday. The Hillers were the clear victors by a 42-18 margin over the Colts. The Hillers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Laurel Highlands better focus on containing Owen Gardner and Jonah Williamson as the pair were huge in Trinity's win. Gardner rushed for 222 yards on only 15 carries, while Williamson rushed for 163 yards on only 14 carries. With that strong performance, Gardner is now averaging an impressive 108.8 rushing yards per game. Daniel Glass got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Trinity was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 388 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 171 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

Trinity didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ben Priest, Glass, and Tyler Welsh picked up one apiece. Glass got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Laurel Highlands' defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Trinity, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
