The Mineola Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Eustace Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mineola made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Edgewood, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Mineola put the hurt on Edgewood with a sharp 15-4 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Journie Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run.
In other batting news, Mahayla McMahon was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn McMahon, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Mineola lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Eustace, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Quitman on Tuesday as Eustace made off with a 10-3 victory.
Like Mineola, Eustace also got a great game from a two-way player: Madilyn Andrews. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. What's more, Andrews gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Warren, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Page Miller was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
The win made it two in a row for Mineola and bumps their season record up to 9-8-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Eustace, their record is now 6-9.
Eustace's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mineola has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for Eustace, though, as they've only averaged .356. Will they be able to contain Mineola's hitters?
Everything went Mineola's way against Eustace when the teams last played on March 3rd, as Mineola made off with a 9-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mineola since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
