Preview: Wakefield Trojans vs. Wayne Blue Devils
Wakefield is 0-3 against Wayne since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wakefield Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Wayne Blue Devils at 8:00 p.m. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Wakefield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 35-29 to Hartington-Newcastle.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cael Johnson, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. He scored a full 37.9% of Wakefield's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jacob Borg was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Wayne was not quite Ponca's equal in the second half on Saturday. Wayne fell 54-43 to Ponca.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Colson Nelsen, who scored 15 points. He scored a full 34.9% of Wayne's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Anderson, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
With Wakefield's win and Hartington-Newcastle's loss, both teams now sport identical 1-1 records.
Wakefield suffered a grim 61-37 defeat to Wayne when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Wakefield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
