Baseball Recap: La Lumiere Takes a Loss

After flying high against South Shore Homeschool Athletics last Thursday, La Lumiere came back down to earth. The Lakers came up short against the Calumet Christian Patriots on Tuesday, falling 18-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lakers of the 8-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Brady Monaghan put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Monaghan wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Josh Jaracz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jaracz is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

La Lumiere now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Calumet Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-4.

Looking ahead, La Lumiere will square off against Tippecanoe Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Calumet Christian, they will challenge Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blackhawks have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
