Basketball Recap: Carterville Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Carterville challenged Herrin on Tuesday. The Carterville Lions secured a 37-33 W over the Herrin Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carterville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maya Toliver, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards gave Toliver a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Yates, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Carterville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Carterville's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13. As for Herrin, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Carterville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-34 defeat against DuQuoin on the 16th. Herrin has also already played their next match (against Benton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
