Football Game Preview: Kaufman Lions vs. Poteet Pirates + How To Watch

The Kaufman Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Poteet Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kaufman is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

On Friday, Kaufman ended up a good deal behind Crandall and lost 49-35. The Lions were down 28-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Kaufman had strong showings from Elijah Rose, who gained 125 total yards, and Devin Fivecoat, who threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes. 96 of Fivecoat's passing yards were hauled in by Aljour Miles Ii.

Meanwhile, Poteet played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 49-28 to Corsicana.

Kaufman will need to focus on slowing down Kyler Cornelious, one of several Poteet players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 224 receiving yards and one score. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Hall, who threw for 381 yards and three TDs while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt.

Kaufman's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Poteet, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-4.

Kaufman won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, slipping by Poteet 28-27. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Pirates' Dylan Davis, who rushed for 181 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Lions still be able to contain Davis? There's only one way to find out.
