Softball Recap: Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Providence Academy Lions 5-4. That's more bragging rights for the Lakers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kirsten Heber spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Mallak, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was Breckyn Jonell, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
