Baseball Recap: Putnam Valley's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

After some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four matches, Putnam Valley finally came back down to earth on Monday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Briarcliff Bears. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Dominic Benedetto was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Putnam Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Peterson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double. Sean Carroll also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Putnam Valley fell to 4-1.

Putnam Valley has already played their next game, a 7-6 win against Dobbs Ferry on the 16th. As for Briarcliff, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against Haldane on the 16th.
