Baseball Recap: South Stokes Wins Going Away Against Alleghany

South Stokes was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Alleghany on Friday. South Stokes put the hurt on Alleghany with a sharp 17-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Sauras, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Xander Martin was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of South Stokes' success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Frank Kennedy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

South Stokes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alleghany only posted a batting average of .348.

South Stokes has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. Alleghany's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

South Stokes has already played their next match, an 11-1 loss against Mount Airy on the 18th. As for Alleghany, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Surry Central on the 19th.
