Soccer Game Preview: Ceres vs. Merced

The Ceres Bulldogs will face off against the Merced Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ceres' last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

In Tuesday's Canine Competition, Ceres came out on top. They had just enough and edged Hughson out 2-1. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Huskies are ranked 302nd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Enrique Murillo was the driving force of Ceres' attack as he scored both of Ceres' goals, bringing his season total up to three goals.

Meanwhile, Merced's game on Tuesday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Enochs by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Bears have lost by just one goal.

Ceres now has a winning record of 3-2-3. As for Merced, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Ceres took their victory against Merced when the teams last played back in December of 2021 by a conclusive 5-1. Does Ceres have another victory up their sleeve, or will Merced turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
