There's no place like home for the Durham Academy Cavaliers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They secured a 67-61 W over Oak Ridge Military Academy on Wednesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Durham Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Oak Ridge Military Academy is ranked 47th).
Durham Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from JJ Wilcox, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Dorsette II, who scored 18 points.
Durham Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Oak Ridge Military Academy, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 24-4.
Durham Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against North Raleigh Christian Academy at 7:45 p.m. Hopefully North Raleigh Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. Oak Ridge Military Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hargrave Military Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hargrave Military Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Oak Ridge Military Academy likes a good challenge.
