Sydney Holcomb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lauren Hensley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Macy Spivey, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lincoln County made easy work of Berea on Tuesday and carried off a 12-1 win. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Madison Cassidy made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Halle Siler, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Raelee Lawson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Lincoln County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Rockcastle County's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 10-8-1. As for Lincoln County, their record now sits at 6-14.
