Football Recap: Hibriten Starts Season with Victory at Home

Hibriten gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the East Wilkes Cardinals 24-21. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Panthers were the better team in the second half.

Elan Lipford was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 67 yards, and also threw for 78 yards and one touchdown. Hibriten also got a significant boost from Dk Mitchell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

Hibriten didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Julius Martin.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hibriten will challenge South Caldwell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for East Wilkes, they will take on Mount Airy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
