South Oak Cliff took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the North Shore Mustangs by a score of 41-31. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 38-0 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Mikail Trotter had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 194 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Those 194 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Levon Morton, who rushed for 153 yards on only 12 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: South Oak Cliff was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 447 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

South Oak Cliff didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rickey Giles and Collin Cottingham. Giles has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played.

Despite the loss, North Shore still got an impressive performance from Kaleb Maryland, who rushed for 129 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries, and also threw for 283 yards and a pair of touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (113 yards to be exact) went to Aubery Johnson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

South Oak Cliff didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-28 defeat against Duncanville on the 5th. As for North Shore, they have also already played their next game, a 42-0 win against Crowley on the 5th.
