Softball Recap: Columbia Central's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Columbia Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Northwest Mounties 4-2. The victory was just business as usual for the Golden Eagles, who after nine games remain undefeated this season.

Hailey Wetherby spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Kelsey Fausz was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Gianna Evans was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Columbia Central's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Northwest, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Coming up, Columbia Central will host East Jackson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Northwest, they will venture away from home to face off against Lumen Christi Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
