Baseball Game Preview: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. Marquette Catholic Explorers

The Gibault Catholic Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Marquette Catholic Explorers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Gibault Catholic is leaving town to face Marquette Catholic after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Gibault Catholic came up short against Granite City on Tuesday, falling 19-6. The Hawks have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Peyton Schaefer put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Tyler Frierdich made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Dylan Schaefer, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Marquette Catholic came up short against Alton on Tuesday and fell 4-1.

Marquette Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Fahnestock, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Gibault Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Marquette Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can Gibault Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
