Basketball Recap: Peyton Comes Up Short

Peyton was the 51-30 winner over Simla when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Peyton Panthers were beaten by the Simla Cubs 55-10 on Thursday. The game marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Peyton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Scarlett Clark, who posted three points and five steals. Clark is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammie Nickell, who earned three points and eight rebounds.

Simla's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anna Kerst, who went 7 for 12 en route to 16 points and five steals. Carlee Cox was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Peyton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Simla, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Peyton has already played their next contest, a 39-36 loss against Crowley County on the 17th. As for Simla, they will take on Hoehne at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Simla is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.6 points per game this season.
